My mother was diabetic and so is one of my good friends.I don`t know what kind of a budget you are on,but here are some things I can suggest for you.First you can check your food store because they usually have a diet section that carries alot of sugar free items.I know Walmart does.Okay,so here are some suggestions:Almonds are very good for blood sugar,Whitman`s makes sugar free boxed chocolates,Smuckers makes an all fruit jam that would be great to add to the basket as well. Also some apples and pears would be good and will hold up well in a basket.Rice cakes are a good thing to add to the basket as well.Just be careful, because diabetics also have to watch carbs as well as sugar,so no crackers,or dried fruit. When the fruit is dried the sugar content increases. Also no wine or anything alcoholic. That`s all I can think of.I hope I was a help to you.Merry Christmas:o)
Any diabetics out there, I need help making a food snack gift basket...?
Thanks for picking my answer!I am so happy I was a help!! Report It
Reply:Beef jerky, not the teriyaki type that can have a lot of sugar. Nuts and other high protein snacks are good. Go on line or to your health food store and look for different roasted nuts that comes in different salty flavor. Stay away from items like yogurt or caramel coated almonds for instance.
Put some smaller sugar free carbonated drinks in there as well. I personally prefer carbonated drinks otherwise, something like diet Lipton ice tea is good.
Bottom line is read the labels and make sure the carbs are low.
Reply:i have been diabetic for 4 years on december 26th and a good snack basket could be anything. if they are type 1(juvenile ) then candy and all the things that u would want are fine!
if they have type 2 (for overweight people) then get them sugar free candy and things that don't have alot of sugar!
Reply:Sorry I am not diabetic, but goodluck making a snack gift basket. :) I wish you luck and all the best!
Reply:I'm not diabetic either but: fruits, nuts, low sodium crackers, low sodium cheese, sparkling grape/fruit juice, and i also think you can find diabetic chocolate.
Reply:Hey I'm a type one diabetic
Thing is artificial sweetners are really bad for you
So I wouldn't go with sugarfree lollies
Dried, fresh or canned fruits is good and healthy also natural jams with fruits sugars instead of processed sugars
and home made cookies allows you to control how much sugar is put into them or you could make the cookies sweet with a bit of honey, or dates and sultanas
Hope it all goes well!
