Themed gift baskets for Christmas?

What movie would go well with an Italian or Mexican food themed gift basket?

Or game that would go with either of these?

Themed gift baskets for Christmas?
itallian...

-under the tuscan sun

-the godfather

-Life is Beautiful

-the italian job

-the bourne supremacy

-the bourne identity

-roman holiday

mexican....

-the mexican

-desperado

-once upon a time in mexico

-from dusk til dawn

-the mask of zorro
Reply:It really depends on the person and the type of movie you want to give.

I would recommend The Three Amigos.

Or you could be really out there and get a movie that was originally in Spanish or Italian with English subtitles.
Reply:Mexican-

Once upon a time in mexico.

Fools rush in

th Mexican

Three amigos

the alamo

anything with salma hayek cuz shes hot!

Italian-

The Godfather
Reply:For Italian:

-The Agony and the Ecstasy from 1965 with Charlton Heston as Michelangelo

-Strange Bedfellows from 1965 with Gina Lollobrigida and Rock Hudson (comedy)

-Life is Beautiful from 1997 with Roberto Benigni

-Il Postino from 1994

-Quo Vadis from 1951 with Robert Taylor, Deborah Kerr (about Roman Empire)

-It Started in Naples from 1960 with Sophia Loren and Clark Gable

-Gladiator from 2000 with Russell Crowe (Roman Empire)

For Mexican:

-El Cid from 1961 with Sophia Loren, Charlton Heston (Spanish, but it might work)

-The Pride and the Passion from 1957 with Sophia Loren (also about Spain)

-Surviving Picasso 1996 with Anthony Hopkins

-Frida 2002 with Salma Hayek

-Selena from 1997 with Jennifer Lopez

-Tortilla Soup from 2001 with Hector Elizondo

-The Mask of Zorro from 1940 with Tyrone Power

I'm not sure about any games that might go well with either, especially not one that would fit in a basket.
Reply:Zorro! .....Antonio Banderas is HOT. :)~

Celebrities and gift baskets?

Did you know that every presenter at the Oscars received a gift basket worth $70,000. They don't need that. They should be happy just to be there. What do you think about celebrities recieving these gift baskets? Are they taxed on them?

Celebrities and gift baskets?
its ridiculous. yeah lets give millionaires a bunch of stuff they don't need...and if they did need it, they have enough money to pay for it themselves. I hate that celebs get everything for free when they are the ones that have the money to buy stuff. Meanwhile there are homeless people with nothing. And military that make crap for salary but they are fighting for their country. They should make the millions. Send them the $70,000 gift baskets.
Reply:I thought they said this year there would be no gift baskets, due to IRS clamping down on the unpaid taxes. It's not like these people can't afford the taxes.

At the same time, it's bizzare that someone who makes 10 million a movie gets a hundred thousand dollar gift basket. It just seems ridiculous. It's like laughing at people who really need money.
Reply:know they are just getting rewarded for that great achievment

but yes, that is way over board....did they put a car in each basket???
Reply:In a way, they were receiving the basket as payment for their services. Think about it. The presenters probably earn millions of dollars on a production, for a few months work.

$70K seems about right for a few minutes work on worldwide television.
Reply:They have enough money and material things. They should donate that money to the poor and homeless.
Reply:OH, cut it out! They all worked hard to get there, that is their job, and maybe one of the few they had this year, some of them. You know nothing about the industry and I do. There are lots of gaps where you're earning nothing, seasons where you're rolling in the dough but with a lot of little paranas yapping behind you trying to think up excuses as to why you should give them a slice of the pie YOU baked and which they did little or nothing to help bake. If you are jealous, do what they did, go down that path and get your own 70,000 dollar gift basket! Stop whining.
Reply:I think it is a great idea to give a celebrity a gift bag. If one of your products get spotted on them it could become the next big thing and receive even more press. Yes, they are taxed on them -- nothing is free!

Reply:I really think they should`t get anything

they are not taxed on them
Reply:I totally agree with the .tamara_cy... But I think they should auction them off for charity.
Reply:I think it's just like anyone giving out party favors at their party but the richer they are the more they can afford to give out.......the IRS requires you claim gifts over a certain amount so they probably were taxed on them........everyone always seems to talk about how people should spend their money and what people do and don't need but the fact of the matter is unless it's your money you shouldn't be telling people how they should or should not spend it and maybe someone didn't need something but they got it anyway (how many purses do you have compared to how many you need?)...also if you know anything about marketing this is a great idea for companies if a celebrity is seen using their product then that's free advertising for them and it might convince fans of the celebrity to use their product....

Started a gift basket business but they are not selling, what are we doing wrong?

In March, my family started a gift basket business. We operate out of home and have website. We attended a major trade show as a vendor and only sold three or four baskets. We sent literature to real estate agents, funeral homes, and the list of potential customers from the trade show. We have also gotten creative and put together cute inexpensive favors for the ladies at the Race for the Cure marathon. We have donated a few baskets for some charity events. We still havnet seen profit. We have also just joined a craft store for the holidays through the end of December in hopes to get ourselves out there. We have only sold 18 dollars so far and its been almost a month. Other vendors at the store sell like crazy and they are selling crafts as well. Is it just that people are not likely to buy a gift basket unless its for a special occassion? Our baskets are priced way under competitors. I know we havent put out any expensive ads, could that be it? Hopefully someone can help.

Started a gift basket business but they are not selling, what are we doing wrong?
Target your market and think about doing specialty baskets made for exclusively for the recipient. That means taking orders and not buying items in bulk but you should see a bigger return than what you're seeing now. Good Luck!
Reply:Ok I'm just the messenger so don't shoot me for what I am about to say. We are in a different "time" right now in 2006. The industries that are booming does not include gift baskets. We are in a different age now.

First it was the Industrial age

Then it was automobiles

Then recently the information age

Right now the fastest growing indrusty is "Wellness".

So let's see...how could we morph that into the gift basket industry? You got it! Make your gift baskets "wellness" gift baskets and I bet you that works. As you know there are millions of gift baskets out there. Why not have a niche on the market?

You could have healthy things in there. I know there is healthy chocolate and snacks for sure. Also by having a WELLNESS gift basket you don't have to put just food in there. You could even have any product that has to do with wellness.

If you are in this business to make money then what I would suggest is find a consumable business. Gift baskets are not consumable. So what happens is when a person buys your basket you are done with the sell and you are done earning income.

However a consumable business is better. When folks run out they reorder and you get paid again and again without having to sell again and again. Makes sense wouldn't you say?

So find a co. with an extremely high reorder rate. If you are doing gift baskets for fun and not really wanting to earn income that's one thing but you seem ambitous and wanting to earn income. Find something Consumable where you keep getting paid.

I know..I know...the moment is coming where we say what we do but it's true. My wife and I are still being compensated for work we did 3 years ago. We are in a consumable business with no selling and no making baskets.

If you can do what you are doing..you would find our business much easier. Bring no money but bring your time to our conference at

http://www.entertheconference.com and have your speakers on. We'll show you what we do and we won't ask you for any dough..nor will you ever pay us.

But consumbables are the way to go.
Reply:Hi, sorry to hear your baskets are not selling well. I can give you a website that may help you if you email me to rpelley5@yahoo.com. Thank you.
Reply:I think it is just the economy. people do not buy extras when they are struggling to pay for necessities. maybe the competition's customers are from an established customer base. It takes a little time to establish ones self. Don't give up hope.
Reply:Just a thought - sometimes if something is priced TOO cheap, people don't want to buy it because - it's too cheap! I'm not in business, but have a feeling if the product is priced correctly (higher) it might sell better. I'm thinking in terms of being a customer and sometimes if things are priced as if to look expensive, I might be more inclined to buy it because I think it's must be a good product. If it's cheap, I might have second thoughts. Sounds funny, but you could try that with some of your products and put the price up and see what happens!

Wall St ? Perhaps you need to go to companies that

are well off %26amp; don't mind spending a little extra cash to

make someone in the office feel special on their

b-day or a holiday?

Sounds like you are doing everything else, good luck !
Reply:I would say that you may want to consider taking sales and marketing courses. There are companies that offer one or two day workshops.
Reply:Retail can be such a pain !! You need to SUPER social and be ready to give away things.

Keep in mind that work of mouth ins the best advertising! It can make your or break you.

You need to make people realize that they cannot live without your baskets!! You need to appeal to certain individuals that will crave what you have to sell.

You need to get some mini baskets made up for giving out to local businesses and institutes. I am sure you have all your bases covered when it comes to types of baskets but I will run through a few just in case.

Are you making bskets that are food and other products ? These gift basket can be anything and you can appeal to anyone simply by hitting what it is they love.

Do you have baskets for local health clubs ? Things that will appeal to the work out crowds such as soaps, candles, fitness music, barbells, sweat towels, sugar free candies, health foods(huge variety), personal hygene products such as specialty deoderants, colognes, etc...

Do you have baskets that appeal to the chocoholics !? Self explanitory.

Do you have baskets that appeal to MEN!? A basket of tools, grease rags, a tire gauge, w-d40 spray, oil can, hanging bracets for the garage, tool box, even a how to book. You can ask your customer what theme. It could be a fishing OR hunting basket for the sportman.

Do you have all sizes of baskets so even a student could afford a small one for a special teacher? One that would have an apple in it, stickers, markers, a special teacher pin or plaque, etc...

Do you hit the local hospitals and nursing homes ? Explain that your baskets can be made to order for every individual simply by asking a few questions about the person receiving the basket. Have one of your big baskets on display at the hospitals for people to view with some explaining that custom baskets are made to order.

Visit your schools teachers lounge, hospital reception area, nursing home, factory lunch rooms, dentist office, mega mart managers, banking institutes of all kinds, fitness centers, chiropractor office, all the churches, insurance offices, car dealerships. Hit up all the break rooms and lunch rooms of all the business you can possibly think of.

You can have the local churches put an announcement of your business in their bulletin. YOU need to get out there and be super social. This would not be a business for an introvert!!

Give out super small baskets as samples and offer a slight discount for the first order and possibly delivery discount if you deliver.

Advertising in the newspaper is not the answer !! Like I said word of mouth is the greatest !

I would think you knew all this already so sorry if I was of no help! Sometimes its just nice to hear others input and ideas.

Good luck and get out there !!
Reply:It sounds like you've done a lot of the positive steps in marketing.

I have to ask this, so that you can ask yourself...Is it possible you need to change the appearance of the basket, or perhaps the product composition?

Most purchases of this sort are inspired by the feeling one gets when they see the product. For example, if you have a range of products that are all different colors that just look "scattered" (to be polite), your sales will be far less than if you have products that have for example black labels, appear to be premium products, and is all put together in a fashion that "drips" with sophistication.

That's just one thing to take a look at if all other things have been considered.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
Reply:Find the type of business on the link below that best describes what it is that YOU do (or want to do). Then see how to truly use the Net to make your specific business (or business idea) thrive. http://www.wotsnext.com
Reply:Participate, in local events and get your presence felt through some small events. You may make your own Mailing list ( Client Data Base ) of perspective Customers as well a Customer data Base to approach corporate customers to be promoted among particular group or locality you are operating.

More over Rome was not built in a day.

Good Luck !!

Should all illegal aliens receive a gift basket upon crossing our borders?

I think we could at least provide them with some complimentary gifts to make them feel more welcome.

Here's some things we could put in each basket:

Drivers license

Insurance card

Social Security card

Get out of jail free card

$10 gift certificate to Wal-Mart

I know it's not much, but it's the least we can do for our unwelcomed guests... right?

Should all illegal aliens receive a gift basket upon crossing our borders?
LOL, I think the libs are passing those out now !

SAY NO TO THE DREAM ACT, or the welcome basket will have a voucher for a free college education in there too.....
Reply:Sounds good but don't forget put white p,ussy, because we love it
Reply:These answers are amazing.
Reply:Why not, but then don't they get all that stuff anyway??? You don't have to be a citizen to get a drivers license,at least in Ohio and Michigan.

Then let's give them free health care, low rent housing, let them work without paying taxes and breed indiscriminately. Sound great, huh??
Reply:Please tell us that you are being sarcastic!!!
Reply:you forgot a bomb that will explode as soon as they open the bag.
Reply:How about a one-way ticket back to Europe, where the Pilgrims came from?
Reply:Give them all a free stay at the White House. After all, Bush invited them.
Reply:NO!!!
Reply:By one of the BP or National Guard greeter personnel, you mean?

(I mean, if they can't shoot to wound fleeing drug smugglers and can't even go armed, respectively, what else are they doing with their time?)
Reply:How do you think they count the poor people in this country? The poorest among us are the illegals! They already get free health care! And most have drivers licenses. Yup, just the social security card and the Walmart gift card should do it, compliments of Hillary!
Reply:add hospitable insurance and medical doctor cards, a new car, a glock .357 and all the shells, locations of all the orange grooves, etc etc.....why not?? good luck
Reply:What about a one way ticket to Canada so they can be "refuges"
Reply:ignorance at its best

go ahead and slap yourself!
Reply:I think a 1 way return ticket would be more appropos?
Reply:How about anthrax.
Reply:harsh but funny and a complimentary meal at Taco Bell:-P
Reply:Hell no! the only thing we should give them people is the business end of a 44 mag. To turn around and go back where they came from.
Reply:Yes, but you forgot a few things.

ACLU membership card.

Food Stamps

Subscription to the "La Raza Times"

$500.00 cash

Taco Bell coupon book
Reply:No. Why should we reward people for breaking the rules? Therefore, my answer is still NO.
Reply:You're too late. They already get that stuff upon arrival. Don't forget the free health care and education opportunities!
Reply:I thought they already get all this without it needing to be a gift they just demand it.
Reply:Let's just shoot them on site, and the hell with the rest!
Reply:dont forget the tax-exempt card.

For x-mas I want to make gift baskets?

What should I put in them? I don't want to spend a lot of money like I did last year on one specific gift for each member of my family. Where do I buy cheap baskets. Should I just buy cheap nice stuff from the dollar store and put it in each basket

For x-mas I want to make gift baskets?
The dollor store acutally has some cute little baskets cheap. They have stuff you can make a bath basket or a kitchen basket. A baby basket, pet stuff. Last yr I even found some cute slippers and sweats for toddles. You can make some nice baskets from the dollor store.
Reply:My local Goodwill store has an entire aisle of baskets for very cheap. That's where I would go.

As far as what to put in them, why don't you bake some cookies, muffins, fudge, etc?
Reply:I think that when giving gifts that it has to be something that people like . if you make baskets they still will have to be each family member specific liking. I would do gifts card or you should do what we do in our family we draw names that way you are not buying all those gifts. It is something to ask them and the best part people are always wondering who has the name . p.s don't forget to set a limit on what you spend.
Reply:sure my aunt does this all the time! Usually she get's us perfume and cologne and some nice things from the dollar store you'll be surprised what you can find. (my mom works for one) :) so go ahead why not?
Reply:nice and dollar store do not go together.
Reply:A dark red wicker basket, put a layer of green and red checkered fabric on the bottom, but make sure it's noticable, and stuff it with candy canes, See's Christmas Candy, ribbon candy, and the cheap chocolates wrapped with foil that look like people. Then put a medium sized santa in a corner, and tie a green ribbon to the side where the Santa is. My friend did that a couple years back
Reply:You can get fast food coupons, movie rental coupons. Small lotions for the women.

You don't necessarily need baskets.

One year my sister did theme ones. She gave me a very large popcorn bowl (plastic with snowmen) and put in it several microwave popcorn, some candy and a couple of movie rental coupons.

You could do hot chocolate ones: hot cocoa mix, marshmallows, maybe a magazine or a book and a mug, of course.
Reply:bake some cookies and put that in tin cans find decorative tins their cheaper than baskets and also you can put candy in some good luck im doing gift cards this year
Reply:I MAKE THEM ALL THE TIME. I GET MY BASKETS AT GARAGE SALES. I BUY SHREDDED PAPER AT A CRAFT STORE. AND I USUALLY PUT A FEW NICER THINGS IN LIKE I AM MAKING BATH AND BODY WORKS G/B'S THIS YEAR AND PUTTING WASH CLOTHES I'M GONNA MAKE INTO ANIMALS AND A SCRUBBY SPONGE. THIS IS IMPORTANT. DON'T FILL THE BOTTOM OF THE BASKET WITH THE SHREDDED PAPER. IT IS EXPENSIVE THAT WAY. FILL IT WITH CRUMBLED NEWPAPER FIRST TO PUFF IT UP, THEN COVER THAT WITH ENOUGH SHREDDED PAPER TO COVER IT. THEN PLACE THE ITEMS ON TOP IN A NICE PATTERN. THEN WRAP WITH CLEAR WRAP AND A BOW. VUALA! GOOD LUCK.
Reply:You can usually get cheap baskets at the dollar stores. Then go to the health clinic and get free condoms to put in them. That says have a merry x-mas, AND be safe :)
Reply:That would be a good idea. You might be able to find cheap baskets at the dollar store. Or try walmart.
