Are florists more successful than gift baskets biz for sending gifts?

I was thinking of doing an online gift basket biz but don't want to waste my time if people think of florists first when wanting to send someone a gift. What do you think?

Are florists more successful than gift baskets biz for sending gifts?
Florists are more successful than gift basket stores. I work in a florist and we not only do arrangements but we do gift baskets. Our flower shop's arrangements and gifts are also available for purchase online, so it easy to shop for too. We provide service for almost the entire houston because we own 10 stores in Houston. It depends on good management also. We don't sell anything with poor quality ever. Our florist has many regular customers and we always get new customers that become regular customers every week. So yes, I would believe that people would be more likely to go to a florist because of the variety of gifts (flower arrangements, gift %26amp; fruit baskets, chocolates) than a gift basket business.
Reply:I had a gift basket business and it did not do well online at all. You can check out giftbasketsharingcircle, you can read posts and ask questions. Florist would be better, although there is a lot of competition, but if you offer something unique and different, then it will do well.

Would you patronize a gift store that lets you create your own gift baskets/bags at a reasonable price?

I have an idea of a store where you can walk in and choose X amount of gift items, the type of basket or bag you would like, and have it nicely put together for you while you enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks. Prices would be based on the number and type of items you choose. The atmosphere will be more like a spa instead of a cheap Dollar store.

Would you patronize a gift store that lets you create your own gift baskets/bags at a reasonable price?
I think it's an excellent idea because people are choosing their own style with the guidance of a professional to help them with ideas. I'm not all that creative, but would love to give someone a nice gift basket. Most of the ones you see in stores are too generic and contain a lot of items people don't want.

Go for it!!
Reply:Sounds a good idea. You would have to do it in a high income area and watch your pricing very carefully as people could drink your profits. I would also check that you can get a good customer turnover as well - don't want people not buying because you are too busy on a fancy wrapping.

I would have a wedding gift service in shop as well!

A good niche if you can work it though!.
Reply:I would not shop there due to the fact that I make these at home all the time. BUT there are plenty of brain dead people out there that need help in making something like this so it might work well in a high population area.

Good LUCK !!

: )
Reply:I would not shop there and I'll tell you why. If and when I purchase a gift basket it is because I want to be thoughtful without actually putting any thought into it. Thus going into a store and picking items out to put in the basket defeats the purpose. Gift baskets are suppose to be quick, beautiful, thoughtful gifts. Order, pick-up and pay. Now, add some pre-made options and a drive-thru window and you got me.

Are there any more ideas of what to add to gift baskets of personal travel size top of the line products?

We've started making pretty packages with travel size items practical for weekend travelers.

We are marketing them at small craft fairs and flea markets. Other than moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, bar and liquid soaps and body washes, deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpaste and mouthwashes, are there any other "must have" products for men and women? Also, we are putting them in flattish round baskets? Would any other kinds of packaging work too? This is just to add a little extra to our incomes.

Does anyone have any ideas for a commerical about mother's day gift baskets?

...i have to do a commercial for my marketing class, and we're going to be selling gift baskets for mother's day. The theme of the gift basket is a spa theme...this includes bath products and other things to help them relax.

The commercial should be simple and it has to be no longer than 30 seconds....

any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks...!!!

Does anyone have any ideas for a commerical about mother's day gift baskets?
Start off by showing a mother comforting her child during different situations while the child is growing up(ie.. as a baby crying, as a toddler learning to walk), then flash to grown child handing mother basket with "here's your chance to show her ther comfort she's shown you over the years"(or something to that effect).

Cheapskate.com is defiantly the best
Reply:I just did a search on it ...hope this helps
Reply:ebay is always a good place to doublecheck against for prices and look for ideas. My family is partial to flowers--I call a nearby produce store that has a florist. They do a really good job for much less than FTD places. They usually build a plant or little tree into the whole thing. Peonies and gladiolas are my mom's favorites, and the potted part stays.
Reply:make one.get some gourmet food or whatever and stick it in a basket.graft stores sell theses big cellephane bags.place the basket in and rubberband.blow air from hairdryer and it will shrink it to fit the basket.tie off with a christmas ornament.its cheap and pretty.i usually through some candles, gourmet coffee, chai tea, choc covered pretzels, non parils etc.people love them
Reply:www.figis.com They have all kinds of baskets, etc for Family
Reply:Well if your looking for something practical, and cheap I would sugest that you go no futher than your local thrift shops. find a nice basket for a low price. The Good Will store is the best. Target sends them their out dated stuff it is brand new never opened and you never know you just might find a gift basket already done for the fraction of the price. Just because it was sent to the Good Will dosen't mean that it is no good. After so long Target has to get rid of it. They can't keep it for ever. Try making home made cookies they are always a good hit. If you can't bake try Nestle's Tollhouse pull aparts they taste like home made and nobody needs to know that they are not from scratch.
Reply:Goodwill.

Get a basket and make your own.

Other ideas simple homemade gifts.

Canning jar with contents to make cookies and attach a recipe card.

There are so many cheap homemade gifts.

Good luck and peace.

I would like to make gift baskets with unique items to Bakersfield for our friends back home. Any ideas?

We just moved here and don't know a lot about what's unique or the history of Bakersfield. All I know is that many people could not understand why we moved here at all. So I want to make up some baskets with for example some items that grow here or are made here. Not expensive hopefully.

I would like to make gift baskets with unique items to Bakersfield for our friends back home. Any ideas?
The city's economy thrives on agriculture. Why not put some locally grown items in the basket? You could also add a local newspaper and some photos of scenery, nearby parks, etc. Try viewing this link, it will give you tons of ideas:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakersfield...
Reply:Contact the Tourism Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce there in Bakersfield. Explain to them that you are trying to make friends understand why you moved to their great city. Ask them for any type of freebies they could give you. Ask your neighbors/church members/club members what their favorite things are in Bakersfield and then add those, too.
Reply:I feel your pain we moved about 2 1/2 hours north of you, (from San Diego County)our family and friends were in shock why in the name of.... did you move there its only in the 100+ during the summer, they think we are in insane. I have found some things to do, camping, bike riding, fishing, We are a few hours from Yosemite!

For Bakersfield, CA you have winery's, in your neighborhood, olives, citrus, potatoes, table grapes, almonds, pistachios, tomatoes, and pomegranates, groves.

Out door activities include,

It is within two hours of Pacific Ocean beaches, mountains, and the Giant Sequoia National monument. Bakersfield is home to one of the fastest flowing rivers west of the Mississippi, the Kern River, where white water rafters enjoy the great outdoors. Others enjoy leisurely walking, biking and roller skating activities along the Kern River Parkway with its 12-foot wide bike path that meanders alongside the Kern River. The Parkway extends nearly 20 miles along the banks of the Kern River, starting at the California Living Museum northeast of town and ending near Cal State Bakersfield.

Not sure were you are from, but a basket with a few things grown here, bottles of wine, go to the visitors bureau get brochures on river rafting /tubing, fishing camping, etc. It will still freak them out but its an idea.

I would like to start making gift baskets ,what are some ideas to make them different from the average basket?

I would like to start making them and need help on some ideas. All the baskets i see all look the same . I want people to see them and say "this is unique and pretty".I'm walking by faith on this one.

I would like to start making gift baskets ,what are some ideas to make them different from the average basket?
If you can't come up with your own 'truly unique' baskets, I wouldn't recommend you start your own business. If anyone here had something really special, we'd be doing it ourselves. No one is going to give you any ideas, that haven't all ready been done. You'll have to do that thinking for yourself. That's how small business start...with an idea YOU thought of.
Reply:I saw one company on the Food Channel that makes "baskets" using round waste baskets with a lot of old-style stickers on them. Then they pick unusual old-style candy bars (not stale ones - classic ones) and pile them in to stand up very tall and secure it with a tall plastic wrap. They were good enough that they go into Oscar-presenter style gift packs.
Reply:I have always wanted a "crafting" gift basket....one that has different crafty things in it...like a candle making basket or soap making...with different molds and things for that...I have never found any like that....
Reply:Make "Romance Baskets" here's what will go in them:

Scented bath oils, beads, crystals, etc

Scented lotions, powders.

Heart shaped soaps

Romantic music CD's and romantic movie DVD's.

Bottle of champagne or sparkling cider

Scented candles

Condoms and small sex toys

Chocolates

Restaurant Gift cards for romantic dinner for two.

Who makes personalized gift baskets in Sacramento?

I am looking to have a gift basket made for an upcomng bridal fair. I will supply all the products that I want included in the gift basket.

Who makes personalized gift baskets in Sacramento?
Go to World Trading Market. There is one on the corner of Howe and Alta Arden. You can buy a Basket and the Basket kit. Cheap. Arrange all your stuff in the basket and tie up the basket using the kit. You just made your basket.

I am a REALTOR and have done this for my clients. They are amazed at my talents. Its also cheaper than buying them because you can put more expensive things in the basket without having to pay the overhead.

Any questions you contact me.

What are some good things to put in gift baskets for christmas?

I would like to make gift baskets for family and friends this year for christmas, but I dont know what to do. What are some good themes or ideas for unique and inexpensive gifts?

What are some good things to put in gift baskets for christmas?
I just made some gift baskets myself with a bunch of really cool little things from this site called http://www.HomeGrownMarket.com - there is a listing for gifts under $5, gifts under $10...and so on. But there are some cool magnets I got, some interesting soap, cool earrings, and a shlew of other neat stuff! And it's all handcrafted in the USA so I feel good about supporting other small businesses and women in our country!! Hope I've helped!
Reply:small gift cards, checkbook sized pocket calendars and pen, if possible some pictures of you and them, self made coupon (i.e. for one homecooked meal from you, movie night, babysitting ~you'll notice these are my favorites as they give your time), small ivy plant.....just get creative and personalize them if possible
Reply:its too soon for Christmas preparation!!
Reply:Sausages and cheeses are a great idea. Try Dakin Farms. com
Reply:Some people like to do the recipe thing where they write the recipe on a card then include all the dry/canned ingredients into the basket. You could also do those jar gifts and put the dry ingredients in the jar with the recipe attached.

Or center around a theme, like coffee, gourmet coffes, a mug, those biscuit dipping things, etc. (don't know much about coffee sorry.)

I think doing baskets are fun! good luck
Reply:Scented candles would be nice.

Oh yeah, and good ol' fruitcake.
Reply:Homemade cookies, breads, cakes, jelly's,coffee mixes are always good in a gift basket. Fruit and nuts, candy canes, homemade candy. Gifts that you make come from the heart, and appreciated by friends and family.
Reply:how abouit homemade stuff. Eg cookies in a nicely decorated box? jams or pickles too ... you can decorate the lid and jar.

I would like to make Gift Baskets for Stroke Victims %26amp; Their families that are in the Hospital. I know what they are going through and that it must be heartbreaking and hard. What can i put in the baskets? What should i Buy? What should i make myself?

I would like to make Gift Baskets for people in the Hospital?
Oh thats so sweet! My grandfather had a stroke a year ago, and it was hard. Maybe instead of making gift baskets, you could go into homes with stroke victims and play games with them and just hang out. My grandfather calls me almost everyday, asking if I can come visit him because he is bored. Good luck :)
Reply:Call the hospital and they will probably tell you what they need and what they like.
Reply:What a wonderful idea. You should first check with the hospital administrator, for permission to pass out such baskets. Then ask him what items you can put into the baskets, but I'm sure he will frown upon food items.
Reply:make a basket and fill it with beer ahahahahahahahahaah
Reply:give them flowers and also them some money and get well cards it does not matter what you put in there its the thought the counts i wish there could be more people like you and be more giving

What should to include in an article on Corporate Gift Baskets?

I have to write an article on the topic - Corporate Gift Baskets...

So can anyone suggest me what exactly i have to write on that...

What should to include in an article on Corporate Gift Baskets?
You don't say who the audience is, but my guess is that you want to write an article that talks about how great gift baskets are and that offers suggestions on what to put in them, and maybe provides info on some companies who produce things like this. One thing you really need to mention is that many corporations do not allow employees to accept gifts over a certain small dollar amount, like maybe $50. A great way to get around this is to go with "personalized" items such as coffee mugs, notepads, pens, etc. Personalized items are difficult to price. I would say that if someone's looking to produce a large number of gift baskets, he or she should work with a professional. One great company is Artfull Baskets, in Santa Monica, California (www.artfullbaskets.com).
Reply:Google has more than 200,000 sites about corporate gift baskets.

If I were you, I would reflect on why this now a part of corporate culture? What is the raison d'etre for a gift basket? Is it ethical? What is the guid pro quo of this practise??

The contents of any corporate gift basket must be related to the purpose of handing these out. What does the corporation expect in return? Surely no one offers gift baskets without some expectation? Given this, what is the rationale or expectation? Is that ethical? Is this what competition has been reduced to? Bribery? Seducements?

I would be tempted to write how corporate gift baskets reflect the state of competition . . . how far you want to go with the morality or, in your case, etiquette is up to you . . . %26lt;smile%26gt;

How can i advertise my adorable gift baskets to the public?

im trying to start up a small gift basket business from my home...i know my adorable baskets will sell i just dont know how to advertise them to the public...please help

How can i advertise my adorable gift baskets to the public?
You may want to start with going to some local businesses. For instance I am a real estate agent, and we are always giving away gift baskets for open houses, raffles, and to clients. Try making up some flyers and taking them to Real Estate Agents. You may also want to take some into some mortgage brokers offices. They sometimes send out some gifts to people who take their loans.
Reply:Consignment shops are a good way to start. If they sell there you can then think about opening your own shop.
Reply:ebay

flyers posted in local stores

maybe work out a deal with a florist so people can buy them and have them delivered with flowers
Reply:Put an add in the classifieds and put of fliers around town.
Reply:newspapers classifields ads online too on ebay or amazon
Reply:Myspace...this is something that almost everyone has, so you can make a page advertising your baskets then friend request people...make sure if you do this that you set your page to public view so that everyone can see you baskets!
Reply:Ebay is a given, but be careful as there are alot of people that will try and scam you on there.

Alot of supermarkets have places where you can put up ads.

Newspapers and some local tv stations can run ads cheaply.

Also I know my mom recently got some free business cards printed at the microsoft website. I dont have the link so you may have to do some searching but it would be worth it. Hope that helps some ^_^
Reply:Go into subdivision and leave flyer's on mailboxes.

Drive through subdivisions and get the address and send out your own mailers. Postal officer mailers are very expensive.

Get local business to allow your card to be displayed at check-out counters.

Start your own internet site.

Some mom/pop cafes will allow you to leave a sample gift basket in their establishment for advertisement.

Florist also might let you leave samples with them for a small fee.
Reply:Leasing offices will sometimes give new tenant gifts. You might try getting a page of ads from local business', charge them for the ad, depending on how many pages you will be distributing. Then offer the ad pages and gift baskets to the apartment complexes for free. You make your money from ads and the gift baskets open the door for the ad sheets. dsr
Reply:Have you checked out the EBAY site? You can actually start up a store and people from all over the world can shop there. Ebay's does have fees but they are very reasonable, at least I think so.

Good luck

How can I find supplies to make gift baskets?
Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, K,mart, Big Lots,Dollar General, and Family Dollar stores have all the supplies that you need. I would try the Dollar Tree store first. I put together a scrapebooking Basket and it only cost be around 20 bucks for the supplies had some filler and cellophane left over. Basket was worth 60 bucks at Wal-mart. I even included a scrapebook.

The baskets are normally ordered from a local florist or gift maker in the town of your recipient. For flowers %26amp; gifts FTD.com does this.

Would anyone be willing to pay for custom made gift baskets?

I enjoy making gift baskets and I was considering making flyers and posting them throughout chicago (where I live). I would like to have a couple premade for holidays. But I mostly would like to make them at the customers request with thier opinions on how they would like it. Do you think it would work as something extra to do?

Would anyone be willing to pay for custom made gift baskets?
I think that's a great idea. You can even sell those on the internet and start your own home based business. I live in Chicago too and I know a lot of people here who would like something like that. I think you should give it a try. I honestly think you'll have a successful business doing that.
Reply:I would be interested in them, but I live in upstate SC, so I can't help you by buying any. Perhaps you could advertise them via local colleges, once school starts back. Both Universities that my sons attended have had advertisements sent to parents by locals who make such things. Good luck!!!
Reply:Give it a try.
Reply:Oh Yes and you could also sell them on eBay.
Reply:Yes, alot of people do that. You could do theme baskets for people who like certain things. I think the key is advertising professionally, and then your reputation and word of mouth will do the rest. Good luck! And I have bought them before as a thank you gift.
Reply:Of course, people love stuff like this and people will buy things like this at no cost. I sell gift baskets for newborns. I start at 10.00 and end up anywhere to 200.
Reply:I thinks that its a great idea make sure you take pictures of the ones you make and keep them in a binder that way it gives people ideas on what kind of basket they like and that way you can show what kind of work you do on them GOOD LUCK!!!!
Reply:Depends on a crapload of things..... you're leaving too much out.
Reply:Some people just don't have the talent to make their ideas attractive. I think it's a great idea. People know they want to give a gift for the kitchen or garden then end up with a box of odd items. If you can assemble these in an attractive container, you've got a sale-able product. Marketing will be the problem. People with money (the ones that are willing to pay for your service) may be less likely to be checking out the local bulletin boards of light posts. Put some together, get good pictures and try to get them noticed by the right people. Make up a business card. Donate one to a charity auction and be sure your info is listed in their booklet. Be sure you price them high enough to cover your costs and time. Sometimes it seems crafters do a lot just to cover the cost of our supplies.

Best of Luck with the new venture.
Reply:yes it works grate. my auntie started her own gift basket business it took 2 years but now shes making a 100% profit!!!

Reply:Well, I know that I would like one or maybe two, but that is only if I lived in Chicago. It does sound like a good idea.
Reply:Maybe if it had crack in it.
Reply:Hi,

You need to get a business license in your area. You, also, need to carry liability insurance, just incase someone gets one of your baskets, gets sick, and decides to sue you.

What is the "actual" name for the clear adhesive thats gummy thats holds products into gift baskets?

Similar to the baskets that Wal Mart sells with bath and body products hooked into baskets. The adhesive is clear, gummy and removes off the product easily. Please help I am putting together gift baskets and want the items to stay in place. Also, where can I find this stuff?

If Im making gift baskets with fudge in it how long will it last?

Im making different fudges and chocolate covered pretzels ect for gift baskets for family , how long wil the stuff stay good? When should I start making it if Im handin them out on Christmas and the day after

If Im making gift baskets with fudge in it how long will it last?
If you are using heavy cream in your fudge then it won't last as long without being kept cold. If you are using the marshmallow creme method then if you complete the fudge at room temp. then it will keep for a couple of weeks. If it lasts that long. I am also giving fudge and I started it today which I will be giving on Christmas day. Hope your fudge comes out great. Everyone will love the gift.
Reply:yummy fudge
Reply:My fudge recipe says to keep in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 10 days. It is made with chocolate cream and butter. You could make it a couple of days before Christmas. Maybe for the health of your recipients you could write a little note saying to keep it in the fridge and when it should be eaten by.
Reply:Yumm.. i'd say 5 minutes.. Make the goodies atleast a day before and get the baskets prepared.
Reply:Some say till 3011 some say till 9011 some say forever. NASA says their tang has a half life of 5 billion years.
