What is the best place online to order someone a gift basket and have it sent to their house?
No one knows where you live or where you intend to send the basket and not everyone in YA lives near your state/country. You need to be more specific otherwise you won't get the answer you want. ^_^

Star gift basket ideas?

I have to make a gift basket with a star/shooting star theme. Any ideas what I could put in it? It needs to be worth at least $75 Thanks

Star gift basket ideas?
$49 and probably the most fun item you could gift.

The "FiberFX" LED Lighting BOX has 5 Programmable effects:

Random Flash, LED Wash, Shooting Star, 1-64, %26amp; Comet trail.

You simply connect fiber optics to LED's on unit and run other end to Ceilings, Signs, Costumes and more. What ever you wish!
Reply:You can use glow in dark stickers that stick on the wall, star pj or clothes, star candle......if you still don't know yet look up on web site and type star decoration it will give you more idea. I hope it help. good luck.
Reply:What about some crystals, glow in the dark stars etc... You may also find that some lighting stores have great ideas.

What is/was your favorite or most appreciated BABY gift, product or item?

Or what would you suggest as a really neat thing to give or receive for a new baby rather than a stuffed diaper bag full of goodies or gift basket or gift card? I'm looking for answers of individual items such as: bottle cozies, washable car seat covers, hand crafted baby quilts, etc...

Thanks for your input! I'm way past the baby stage but have several showers to attend this summer and fall!

What is/was your favorite or most appreciated BABY gift, product or item?
It was a gift certificate to Burke Williams Day Spa. Ever since I got this, I give it to everyone of my friends. It's something that I looked soooo forward to. You go 9 months and some change that you can't use certain medicines, certain shampoos, detergents, hair dying, etc. I felt like I was a big mess when my baby arrived. After a month or so I used my spa certificate. It was something I was so grateful for. I give it all the time now. When people see the gift bag, they know its from me and tuck it away immediately.

The best gift for a baby is a happy mommy too :)
Reply:wipe warmer or bottle warmer. definitely
Reply:diapers and baby wipes but if you want to do something different try on-line stores they have stuff i would have never thought of
Reply:I appreciated all my gifts...but my sister had a great idea. She bought ME some nice, comfy pajamas and slippers! It was so nice after a rough day of diaper changing, feeding, %26amp; burping (not to mention colic) to climb into those comfy pjs and take a load off...after hubby got off work, of course!
Reply:my funniest gift was from my parents "CATS"

it was a big regtangular box wrapped up and the card said, "we hope our Nephew is as CLEAN as we are" and i opened it up to see 2 of everything. baby wash, lotion, powerder, diapers, wipes, all sorts of bath items. i didnt run out of some of that stuff for a long time.

also liked burp clothes, those infant gowns, blankets,

for baby stimulation----anything red, white and black. or other bright colors like that.
Reply:Maybe a voucher to get the babies feet and hands plastered like this similar in Australia.

http://www.impressionablekids.com.au/

I know it was and still is the best gift ever!!
Reply:Boppy pillow. Hot Sling baby carrier. Developmental activity mat. Cute diaper bag stuffed with infant grooming/child-proofing supplies. Diaper Genie or Diaper Champ. Those little needed extras that add up: tinted window clings to block the sun in the back seat of the car; mirror to mount near the car seat (so driver can glance back and see the baby); head positioners (for use in swing, bouncy seat, etc.).
Reply:The gift I appreciated the most was a fuzzy blankey I recieved at a baby shower thrown by my co-workers. The girl who bought it had never bought anything for a baby before and had no idea what to get, so opted for the blankey. My daughter is almost 4.....the poor blankey is threadbare and faded, but she still holds onto it. It's her lovey. Wrapped her in it the day she was born and she never let go of it since.
Reply:My favorite gift given at a baby shower was actually for me. Name brand body lotions and body washes. Also what I wish I got was a gift card for Gymboree or similar baby gym. And the quilt idea is great, check out these:

Reply:The best thing I got was an Ocean Wonders crib toy, it plays about 5 or 6 lullabyes and the fish dance around, it worked so good for my baby to put him to sleep and he still uses it every nap and bedtime and he's 20 months now.
Reply:For our third, I got the gift I wish someone gave me for our FIRST! http://www.miracleblanket.com/ along with the book and dvd "Happiest Baby on the Block". Seriously, it was a Godsend (all of it). I thought I had the baby thing down until we watched the dvd and used the blanket!
Reply:I really liked a baby nursery lamp i got. Maybe because it was different, and made the room look really cute!

We give alot of people like girls at work, neighbors, hand crafted patchwork quilts that my mom makes, with each square having a cute little animal in it with some embroidery for eyes and stuff, and i seriously wonder if people even appreciate it!. I know we do cause it's made by our mom/grandma, but other than the thank you note, i never notice any of them using them, or mention them.........
Reply:The best gift I got when I was pregnant was a package containing a magazine, a tea cup and a box of tea. It came with a note saying that when I put the baby down for her/his nap before I start doing all the chores that I couldn't do when the baby was awake (like laundry) I was to make a cup of tea, sit down and read an article in the magazine or a chapter in whatever book I was reading. It may only take 15 minutes but the ME time was important to retain my sanity as a new mother.

I have often given the same gift to my friends when they are expecting and get many hugs in return.
Reply:My cousin's GF mostly appreciated the wipe warmer. She would never have bought it herself and even I thought it was just a gadget. She loves it and I am smarter (now will get those for others). Another thing she still uses (2 years later) is the baby monitor. She has a multilevel home and it makes it easy to know when baby wakes from nap.

My neighbor just had a baby and she really liked the afghans and blankets. She used up the diaper bag full of goodies and continues to use the diaper bag.

Now, I always make afghans or quilts for a baby, and maybe now will also buy the wipe warmers, but I have also included a cup with exotic cocoa or coffee (if I know they like this stuff) for just them to splurge. Oh, and for my one friend, I included a can of beer (she'd been SO waiting to have one) in a sealed package marked "Do not open until after baby comes home." Some I have seen would include scented body powder or lotion.
Reply:Definitely diapers and wipes. What I also needed that no one really got me was PJ's and clothes in bigger sizes that where season apporiate. Large changing pads, sheets and bedding for the crib are always great. Usually if you stick to the register then you should be OK.
Reply:Diapers (there are some really fun ways such as diaper cakes, to give these and make a fun impact at the same time)

Clothes in sizes other than newborn and 0-3

Toys for toddlers, we got a great big box of Duplos from a child in my class (I was a teacher), it was so fun pulling them out when he was 1 year and letting him chew on them, then when he was a year and half he had fun stacking two of them together, and now he can build towers and all sorts of things with them (he's almost 3). It's one of those gifts that just keeps giving.

A personalized trash can (we used it as a laundry hamper) stuffed full of diapers, wipes, and other goodies.

A Boppy

A baby swing

If you're looking for an ipact, there are so any fun things to give, look for gifts with unique presentations.
Reply:I liked getting baby clothes that were simple, comfortable and NOT newborn size, maybe like 6-12 mos. I had tons of nb size things but when they got bigger i had to go shop ( yaaa, that was easy LOL). Also, i loved the little white noise machine. MIRACLE machine!
Reply:i love my boppy and so does baby. it helps me feed him, was great for nursing, and now he sits in it and it helps him stay propped up. it was an unexpected gift and i didn't know how awesome it could be.
Reply:If you can make the quilts, do that ... or you could crochet or knit afghans for each of those babies. Moms can NEVER have enough blankets for their babies, and a 'hand made blanket' will be the 'favorite blanket' because it was made 'just for that baby' and no other ... even if all the moms know each other, and 'know' they'll be getting a blanket from you.
Reply:my best one was a stroller. it lasted through 3 kids and my nephew. thats over 11 years!
Reply:I've been buying this little bear called Mother's little Helper.

Inside the bear is a noise activated heart noisemaker is the best way I can say it. It actually makes the sounds of the inside of the mother's womb for forty minutes to sooth the baby. You can remove the noise maker from the bear to take it along where ever you go and as I mentioned if the baby makes a noise the monitor go on automatically and you can adjust the volume. It sells for about $18.
Reply:A nappy service is a fantastic help to a new mum.
Reply:I loved my

bumbo chair (with tray available only online)

target gift cards

diapers

wipes

boppy

books (blender baby food, or if you are friends with the dad the expectant father)

hangers (cause everyone forgets those)

stuff for the mom (bath and body works stuff)

hand crafted quits are memorable but I'm always afraid to use mine or wash it...

good luck!

or get a scrap book and do a couple of pages so all the mom has to do is add pics...do themes like halloween or one for each month you know..someone got that for my cousin and its the only way she did a memory book.

My boyfriend is going on a trip with his dad to mexico next month, and he wont be back till sunday he saids he's going to bring something back for me, and I want to make a food gift basket for him to take with him, any ideas, of what I can make. Thanks, or what I can put in there that doesnt cost that much

Food gift basket for boyfriend?
Food basket might not be a good idea.Don't think some stuff can go across the border. He might not be too happy if he gets stopped and hasseled.Better to make a package with non food items like a card(I miss you)a disposable camara,a phone card for use from Mexico, stuff like that.
Reply:I would forget the food! and buy yourself some cute undies! and give him a photo of you in them to take with him!
Reply:a stick of pepperoni, some hard cheese, crackers of course. and some bottled water to wash it down. oh yeah, some hard candies.
Reply:well, im sure he'll settle for something non material (you know what i mean)

but i bet he'd like a dope watch. all cool and professioanl looking an what not
Reply:chips cookie brownies sandwich silver ware
Reply:Power bars, honey roasted peanuts in packets. Chocolate will melt, so avoid it. Trail mix. Some sort of dried fruit snack like craisins? Dentyne Ice. You are so nice to him...
Reply:bake him some yummy cookies and brownies, and put his favorite soda/drink in there too! a "coupon" for a back massage wont hurt either :-)

Any ideas of what I could put in this gift basket???

I am making a gift basket for a friend who is really into organic, all-natural items. She also really like vintage-y things. Any ideas of stuff to help me fill it up? Right now I have things like retro candies like Boston Baked Beans %26amp; Good and Plenty, vintage postcards, Jones Soda Bottles and candles.

Thanks so much!!

Any ideas of what I could put in this gift basket???
MONEY, GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR HEALTH FOOD STORE.

Any suggestions of a good on line gift?

I want to send a gift basket but not sure of some good sites. I know of many but have no experience ordering from them. Something affordable not 30.00 for a 3oz box of chocolate. You get what I mean. Of course doesn't have to be chocolate, deals on flowers or other unique gift. It is for a couple in their late 30's.

Thanks

I want to start a gift basket business and dint know were to start!?
I have my own home based business making all natural soy candles. I make custom gift baskets for all occasions. I wholesale, retail and do fundraisers. If you would like more information about starting your own home based business then take a look at my website. Of course because of your age your parents would be the ones to sign up but you could still help making candles and gift baskets.

Reply:Caleb, the little 9 year old business man. From

the day his Mom received her first order, he has been out selling candles. He's learning quite a bit about economics and business (we just have to work on the money management part). He doesn't fear approaching people about our candles. He takes his supplies and knocks on people's doors and says "Do you like Fresh Scents?". I guess he uses the phrase "Fresh Scents" instead of scented candles because that's our business name. He said that the people like it when he says that. He hired himself an employee to walk around with him and help him out. He has also inspired a few other kids that we know to sell our products also.

One day the three of them went out to sort of compete. It was so cute, they would come busting through the door, money in hand. They would give me the customer's money and then they would get paid right on the spot and back out the door they go. One of his friends is trying to get her mom to sign up for Candle Of The Month so that she (the 9 yr old) can sell candles all the time.

Caleb has been a real encouragement to others. Any fears

anyone has of rejection they need to put aside because they see him so fearlessly go out there and work a business. Besides that, he's running running side by side in sales with his Mom. Nothing wrong with some good healthy competition. He's a real go-getter. In fact, the other day he was all ready to go out and make some sales and I had to stop him because it was raining and his supplies would have gotten soaked. Then another time his Dad turned around to hand him his dinner and he was gone. They knew, of course,

where he was. A lady had asked him to come back after six and he wanted to keep his word.

Everyone is really proud of Caleb and how he's not afraid of what other boys in the neighborhood might think of him. He knows that we have great products and that everyone loves candles - men, women and children. He knows that it's a huge market and he has found a way to benefit from it, in more ways than just money.

Please help me with gift basket themes for families/couples with grown children?

I need some new ideas for gift baskets, I've done the picnic theme and the movie at home theme. I don't want to do anything naughty or riske'. Please offer some fresh ideas. 3 points to the best one!

Please help me with gift basket themes for families/couples with grown children?
I have done a spaghetti night basket that was very cute! Put in pasta, jars of sauce, breadsticks, maybe a bottle of wine, checkered tablecloth, parmesan cheese, etc. I have also done a breakfast theme. Waffle mix, assorted syrups, bacon, sausage, orange juice, maybe some cute plates, an omellette pan, whatever you think is appropriate, or non-perishable if needed. Another idea (depending on the person) I have also done a computer fun basket. Put in paper, maybe some colored papers, or cardstock, some blank cd's, dvd's, compressed air or wipes for cleaning, ink (or a gift certificate to Staples, or wherever- so they can buy it themselves if you don't know what kind). Just let your imagination run wild, think about things you use all the time, that is what makes the best gift baskets!!
Reply:Or even Movie theme w/ Killer Oriville Redenbocker popcorn some slippers 4 ev1. Have fun w/ it! Even toss in a candle that smell's good.
Reply:You could do a game night theme. Have some dice, some cards, maybe a notebook to keep score, a small card game (Uno, Rook, Phase 10), maybe even a board game, if you have a big enough basket!
Reply:It is all about movie night. I made a basket for some friends of ours that have grown children. I got them popcorn, candy, root beer with a nice ice cream scooper, 3d glasses and a gift card to Blockbuster. It was a hit! Good luck baskets are a great gift but hard to fill.
Reply:A unique gift basket idea you can use is a Family Night Game basket. Fill it with board games like Bingo, Scattergores, Uno, etc.

Or a Blockbuster theme, fill it with rentals on games, movies, popcorn, and candy.

Or a musical theme, with CDs, tapes, iTunes gift cards..

Or a New Years basket, fill it with horns, whistles, party hats, tickets, etc.

Or a Fantastic 4 basket, fill it with triva games, a costume, mask, the DVD, etc.

Good luck!

I really like your movie theme basket! Good luck!

What are some good "80's" era things for a gift basket?

It's my friends birthday next month and I want to make her an "80's" gift basket (we went to h.s. in the 80's) I am looking for ideas of stuff to put in it? Any good memories of things that were popular then? Thanks, I have some ideas but need more!

What are some good "80's" era things for a gift basket?
Micheal Jackson pins, Madonna like jewelry (especially the armful of black rubber bracelets), hair mousse, scrunchies, neon color tee shirt and matching scrunchy socks, safety pin brooch made out of about 150 odd sized silver safety pins, rip up an old sweatshirt (Flashdance style), a best of the 80's cassette, or search on ebay for copies of your favorite old posters or magazine issues. A rubiks cube and some funky shoelaces would finish it off nicely.

Sounds like a fun idea! If you have some crazy outfit photos of the two of you in your totally tubular outfits, add a little photo album with notes. When I turned 40, my best bud in the 80s (and still) did up a little envelope of memories, with photos, or just notes about stuff we did. We had a great time dancing to Prince and early rap, had posters of President Reagan and Prince side by side in our dorm room, and spent our work study money on Spritz Forte hairspray so our hair would spike. Cheap high heels from Kmart, miniskirts and oversized tops and over the top junk jewelry from flea markets completed our dance club look.
Reply:some blow.

Gift basket ideas?

I have to design a gift basket based on a dream vacation in London. Any ideas about products I could include? Anything helps.

Gift basket ideas?
Disposable camera, fancy soaps, chocolates, maps, sunglasses, suntan lotion, regular pretty smelling lotion, chapsticks, cookies.
Reply:I'll take a guess that this is a bon voyage gift or the table display for a dream trip raffle - either way - items that could be used on the trip would be nice. Tour book - maps - transportation information - alarm clock - power converters -airborne (that don't get sick on the trip stuff) - melatonin for jet lag -
Reply:Go get some English tea, cookies, chocolates and wine.

My dad was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. He starts chemo soon & I want to make a gift basket. Any ideas

I am thinking about small items that would assist him during this time, such as a travelling pillow or heating pad. Thanks for your help.

My dad was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. He starts chemo soon %26amp; I want to make a gift basket. Any ideas
That's so sweet! Lots of great suggestions. I just finished chemo 3 weeks ago. Some comfy shirts would be good, preferably button down if he has a port. One thing I wanted to add is a light blanket. Like a lap blanket. I know in the office I go to it gets very cold in there. Maybe a couple hats for him to have fun with. I think the women worry more about the hair loss than the men, but it depends on the person. I found that butterscotch candies took away the bad chemo taste better than anything else.

Maybe a cd player or mp3 player if he likes music. He'll need something to do to keep him occupied during the treatments.

I completely understand what the other gal was saying about getting lonely. When I first was diagnosed and started treatment EVERYONE I knew was right there. Sending cards, stuffed animals, calling constantly, etc. Now, I haven't heard from some of them in months. Just keep letting him know you care.

Remember to take care of yourself during all of this too. ;)

*HUGS* and prayers to you.
Reply:Books (or gift cards for books that are redeemable on line if he doesn't feel like going shopping), handheld poker, solitaire, chess or whatever, puzzles, a lap tray to do the puzzles on (if you can find one with a beanbag-type bottom, they're the best). If he has a laptop, a game like Zoo Tycoon or something to pass away the hours, crystal light or vitamin water, candies, a sketch pad or notebook so he can write or draw, pencils, extra batteries for the remote and any handheld games, a book light so he can read after dark w/o having to walk across the room to flip the switch, an awesome pair of slippers, a nice lightweight robe that he can easily put on if guests arrive unexpectedly.

Hope you found something in here that appeals to you, I'm sure he'll appreciate anything you do.
Reply:I just helped my sister through this. Hard candies as previously mentioned - especially mints as they help with the bad taste in the mouth they get and bed breath, and also help calm the stomach when they get nauseaus. For that matter, maybe some Tums or Antacids in the basket would help. He might even like some chewing gum!

Her skin also became VERY dry and itchy so perhaps some nice soothing lotions would be nice. Also, wet wipes for sweats and just to refresh.

Include some good books to read while he is stuck sitting there getting his chemo. Even maybe a photo album of his favorites so that he can share with other patients. A deck of cards or hand held computer game will help pass the time away.

Your neck pillow idea is also good. Maybe you could get a aroma therapy one that is soothing!

Good Luck and FYI - My sister came through and is doing great!

Reply:I was just thinking about this the other day. A pillow and heating pad would be excellent. A lot of other very good ideas have been mentioned so far. I had chemo a couple years ago and I got a bunch of presents, cards, and phone calls initially but after a while it seemed like everybody kind of went on with their lives and I had to put mine on pause to get better. Thats when I got a bit lonely. So I was thinking that it would be cool to give a chemo patient some small gift cards with "Promise" coupons attached. For example, a gift card for movie rentals and a "coupon" promising that you will come and watch it with him. Or a gift card to a restaurant for days he feels like going out and a "coupon" promising that you will go with him. Be creative. The coupons should say that they are "multiple use," never expire, and can be redeemed at any time of the day. Of course, your Dad doesn't really need coupons for your time and attention but it would be a way to show him that you will be there for him throughout his treatments.

An additional idea might be comfy p.j.s or a robe. When I had chemo I could not get enough comfy clothes.

Best wishes to you, your dad, and your family.
Reply:I know when my brother hurt his back and we didnt know if he would even walk again I made him a gift basket. I used a budlite bottle cardboard from a 6-pack....took the beer out of course...I added his favorite ice tea, a couple of comic books, candy (such as bottle pops etc, beef jerky...and tied a couple get well balloons on it...it really brightened his day=) There are many ways to make a gift basket...the ideas are endless. Do what you think and go with it. After all you know your dad pretty well Im sure...I think the heating pad, pillow idea is great...maybe a favorite magazine too. Good luck and I wish you and your family the best! I too just found out last night my g/f husband may have lymphoma cancer...we are waiting for the results. I pray all will turn out fine for both of them...God Bless=)
Reply:That is a wonderful and thoughtful idea. You may want to include books to read, a DVD or two. He isn't going to feel like doing a lot of activities so things to keep him entertained whilee recooping. You could also include some games, cards, or such that family members can sit and play with him while he rests. He is in my prayers.
Reply:My dad had cancer and he liked to laugh alot...so maybe throw in something that will bring him laughter...like a movie or comedy show...Laughter makes one feel better and my dad preferred to laugh things off often. Make a scrapbook or something you know that he would value alot.
Reply:Check out WWW.fruitinstitute.com and read about the benifits of Tart Cherry Juice, make sure you read the customer comments as a lot talk about how it helped recovery from chemo. Pomegranate juice is fantastic for the cardiovascular system overall and is very nice to drink. Ginger is very soothing on the stomach and helps some people after chemo.

Personal sterio to help him sleep and a few 'talking books' most books are available on CD now and some video rental shops have them.

A few hand written jokes wrapped up in boxes. Stories about wonderful times you have had as a family that will make him laugh slotted in and around things. Photo album that will give him pleasant thoughts of you all.

Hope it helps, good luck and God bless.
Reply:Whatever you think to give your father is alright but most important thing which you need to give your father is not a worldiy materialistic thing but ............. it is YOURS LOVE N CARE.

YOU n your faimly need to give him best support and care. At these times most of patient's feel lonelyness and in hours of pain many times he may feel that end of life is better for him.So here you have the responsiblity that youy let him feel that he is not so seriously ill all things will get alright with grace of god with your affection and care you can increase his confidence to fightback. You and your faimly member have to show him that you need them very much n you peoples can do anything for him and for his happiness. You need to create a light n health scene in front of your dad so he remained easy and will go easily with free mind for chemo n other processes. So fill ur father's life like bucket with your care n love with perfection.

Now come to your real question fill the bucket with all necessary small items for which ur father will have to move or ask others help then also bring beautiful flowers n ribbons decorate the bucket by yourself and keep a greeting of well wishes of your n your faimly members in the middle. Keep diffrent flower n greeting with new wishes everyday in bucket. I think this will work for u much. If any other suggestion needed u can ask?
Reply:When my brother had to take chemo he was very ill, he liked hard candy to suck on, alot of the time, chemo takes away your appetite and your develop sores on your mouth. Chapstick is also a good idea, lotion because it does dry out your skin. Unfortunately, chemo wipes out the bad as well as the good cells so he will very weak. Does he like to read? maybe a book or two, fruit juice is a good idea too. Throw in some coupons for lots of hugs and kisses. Just think about what your Dad likes and go with it. Good Luck

What would be a good gift for my parents...?

Long story short, my little sister passed away a few weeks ago, and I wanted to do something special for them in memorium for my baby sister. I had thought of the ingenious idea of getting a star named after her; but further research showed that it is only a novelty item, and in fact is not official.

I wanted to hear some ideas from you guys for gifts that would be unique, different from the flower bouquets and gift baskets.

Thanks!!

What would be a good gift for my parents...?
Retrieve a photo of her, from a time in her life when she was at her best. Either have it blown up a bit, or paint a larger version. Then, hire a poet to write a short poem about her and what she stood for (or you could write the poem). Make sure to work with the poet so that the poem has a personal touch to it. Last frame the work together.

If this is done right, it can be pretty amazing. Good luck, hopefully this sparks some ideas...
Reply:Providing they have a yard, get them a beautiful flowering tree to plant this fall as a living memorial to ur sister and their daughter. As it grows, a constant memory of the one u loved and lost. So sorry.
Reply:you hired professional to draw your family's portrait consisting especially your late little sister. it might be a good memory for them
Reply:a bench at her gravesite
Reply:I am so sorry to hear about your little sister, I think just sharing each others memories of the little girl with each other would help overcome your natural grief of her loss :(
Reply:Maybe plant a tree or a flower garden in your yard. So sorry for your loss.
Reply:Check with your local town .. my town sells memorial bricks (for individual donations) that can be personalized as memorials ... and these 'cobblestones' are permanently located around the city.

I've done this in memory of my Parents (who passed away in 1984), and my military service.

They may also have some other way to memorialize your sister .. perhaps a donation to the local children's library in your town of her favorite books (and make sure that they inscribe the name of your sister in them), etc etc etc.
Reply:That's very kind and sensitive of you. I'm sorry for your loss.

Do give your parents a great big hug %26amp; say "I love you mum and dad, I know you miss my little sister the way I do. Let's pull through this tough period together. Let's share our memories of her."

Have a prayer together.

You may also want to have a picture of your sister in a handcrafted picture frame (it's quite easy to make) for your parents.

Most importantly, being you, being there for your parents, is the greatest gift.

In this connection, it is important for you to acknowledge that you are hurting and missing your little sister. After that, tell yourself that you have to move on, while treasuring her memory.

Take good care of yourself so as to be able to take care of your parents.

All the best.
Reply:Parents always appreciate portraits of their families, children, grandchildren, etc

If you need an original gift try photoartomation (http://www.photoartomation.com ). They convert ordinary photo into Art and print them on canvas.

I am very pleased with the painting I received from photoartomation.com.

The painting is absolutely beautiful! I will definitely use this site to order gifts for people--including myself!
Reply:Give them a religious book to read with a note from your side - a prayer to God for their peace. They will be happy.
Reply:You should have an artist draw an oil based painting of her on canvas. I'm sorry about your sister.
Reply:You give them a hug and your being there is good enough. There is no present in this world you can buy that can take your place. Remember that!
Reply:That's very sad...

Ummm... maybe get a bench in memory of your sister... or why not try to buy a fountain/birdbath, beautifully decorated with your sister's name and when she was born etc.

And place it where she died or in your local park... I'm not sure how you go about that, but it will be very pretty :)

I have an idea in my head to maybe get a water fountain/birdbath with Heaven's gate at the top... It would be very pretty... if only you could make it somehow... or get someone to make it...

Sorry if i'm not much help ^_^''

But it sounded nice :)

Good gift ideas for a new mom?

My best friend is pregnant and for her baby shower I wanted to give her a gift basket type thing filled with stuff new moms need or use a lot that. Things she might not expect she needs. They can be things for her, or for the baby. Thanks all!

Good gift ideas for a new mom?
One really cool gift you could do (and be a little creative with it at the same time) is make a diaper cake. You roll individual diapers in different sizes (newborn-3) and then make the tiers, biggest on the bottom and tie the tiers together with a ribbon. Then accent the cake with things she'll need like diaper rash cream, onesies, gas relief med (mylicon), baby soap, lotion, alchol and swabs, tylenol, etc and at the top, top it off with a pair of baby booties. Just a suggestion. In fact, I am making one for my sister-in-law and it is turning out great. If you need pics and better directions, there are several sites that have pics of diaper cakes.
Reply:A great gift is a pregnancy massage. My best friend had one a week the last month of her pregnancy %26amp; she swears it helped her to deliver more easily.

Cute pajamas are great, nice had lotion or foot lotion, even prepaid babysitting.
Reply:go to "dinners ready" and make up a weeks worth of meals she can keep in the fridge/freezer for when the baby arrives. New parents don't want to think about cooking and cleaning. Anything to make everyday life easier is more valuable than any cute baby item:)
Reply:A mommy spa day!

But if that doesn't work:

diapers

wipes

bottles

formula (if not breastfeeding)

onesies

bibs

burpcloths
Reply:Making a basket for the mom is my 'signature' baby shower gift! Personalize it to the woman, but here are some of my favorite suggestions. ..

a new mom's journal

a cute/funny new mom mug with tea bags (I love hallmark)

comfy stay at home outfit (but nice enough for drop in guests)

The Girlfriends' Guide to Surviving the first year of motherhood (Book--Vicki Iovine)

Chocolate!

Aveeno Lotion

CD from Target (Lifescapes). . .relaxing music and/or nature sounds

PADS! (Tuck them at the bottom of the basket)

Have fun!
Reply:A gift voucher for a massage, facial or day spa.

I think people always buy stuff for the bub...what about the mum?? Maybe a lil something for the baby too??
Reply:For baby....nail clippers,thermometer

For both.....Baby Monitor

For mom......free babysitting and a coupon for a massage
Reply:handheld vacuum cleaner
Reply:Lots of recieving blankets. towlettes, bibs burping towls, detergent for baby clothes. Newborns spit up a lot, you would be surprised. Theres a bottle out called the poddie its very safe but its a bottle with a straw connected to it and the nipple is connected to the other end so the baby can drink the milk hands free for the baby and mom. I used it on my babies it works so good, lots of teethers, baby orajel, the first aid baby safety kit ooohh and the book "what to expect from my toddler. Trust me those are must needs!!
Reply:What a really thoughtful idea!!! I'm not a mom (yet) so I don't have a lot of suggestions...but one of my good friends had a baby recently and she mentioned how much she appreciated her crock-pot. She could just throw everything in it whenever she had 10 mins. and her and the hubby could still have a real, hot dinner! If she doesn't' have one that might be a neat idea! And you could open it and put it other small things inside the pot part if you'd like!!
Reply:Lanisoh (cream for the breast) if she plans on breast feeding

Chapstick for the delivery room

Socks with non-skid things on the bottom for the hospital

A gift certificate to go out and a "coupon" to watch the baby for her while she goes
Reply:Make up a basket with items just for her, Bubble bath, candles, wine, the softest cotton extra large bath towel you can find, and a CD of her favorite singer.
Reply:If she is registered somewhere I would pick up gifts off her registry. I'd also stock up on A LOT of diapers %26amp; wipes. Get some nice lotions for mom. Babies go through tons of onesies for the first few weeks too. I'd look into buying something personalized like a baby book/journal. In fact, I have a brand new baby calendar up on craigslist now if you are interested it would make a great baby shower gift. It's a calendar where the new mom rights in memories.
Reply:this is a good idea. i would go with mom things like chapstick or coca butter. gift cerftificates for restaurants that do to-go orders will be helpful as well. also, the poster that said the catty remark about being her bridesmaid should try being less of a *****.
Reply:i always give a travel diaper changer

dont just get a normal basket (she probably will never use it)

go to target or somewhere like that and look in there storage section

i always get a toy box on wheels it looks like a laundry basket but it has wheels

my children love that for their toy box so i give it to people

or anything in storage section that would look nice for a good toy box

and fill that up with all different things

if the person has a dishwasher get one of those basket for the nipples and baby spoons

every child needs socks and many people dont give them

multi use pads

burp pads

vibrating teether i know it sounds funny but they make them for a reason they really do help with teething lol

bath toys

toys for the stroller or car seat

a busy box to go in the crib

a baby book

baby detergent (ALL BABY is the best )

The book "What to expect the first year"

baby books best ones are by sandra boynton --- but not the hippopotamus or moo ba la la la

or touch and feel books

priddybooks.com

www.dk.com

find out it she need any baby gates

or if you buy clothes get size 3-6

(but be sure to go by the weather it would be at 3 months)
Reply:I think that's a lovely idea! I would make her up a basket of things like bubble bath and lotion from Bath and Body Works, perhaps a good book she's been wanting to read or a cd she's been wanting. Or maybe a gift certificate for a pedicure/manicure or even a massage.
Reply:Give her a hospital bag. Stuff for in the delivery room would be good as well. Get a really nice bag and fill it with all the things she will need. You can go to babycenter.com and they have a check list. Just make sure if you do this, if you get her PJ's that you get her a large because even after birth her uterus is still enlarged and she will still have a large middle section. I would have loved something like that, a beautiful bag full of really pretty scented bath wash ( remember she will have to take showers, so no bubble bath) loofah's, comfy socks, pretty PJ's' stuff like that, really nice lip balm, lotions. Most moms will look at the list and just get the basics and nothing really nice for them, they will be more concerned about getting nice things for their baby.
Reply:New moms can always use a new night gown, something comfy or housecoat, slippers. I know I really enjoyed some aromatherapy candles for those "few" minutes of relaxation in the bath tub. If all else fails, you could always buy her gift certificates to her favorite resturant or some ear plugs...lol..Hope this helps.
Reply:I think it'll be best if you buy stuff for the baby, such as clothes, shoes, etc.

Hope I helped.
Reply:My best friend put together a labor bag for me. She put some super soft socks in it, some nice lotion, hard candies, pain reliever spray (Dermoplast), tucks hemmoroid pads, a disposable camera and some tabloid magazines. She packed it all in a really cute bag.

Other items that are great for new mom's include:

Breast pads (if breastfeeding)

Lansinoh lanolin (if breastfeeding)

Gift cards for nearby restaurants that offer delivery or take-out

Mylicon gas drops

Hylands teething tablets

burp clothes (can never have enough)

thick baby towels (most are waaay too thin)

Swaddle blankets
Reply:I've given diaper cakes a few times (a friend taught me how to make them) - you just tape diapers together and stick mini bottles of baby toiletries between them. I've also rolled up onesies and put pacifiers as the cake toppers. The beauty of it is that you can use everything in the cake instantly. Just make sure you take a picture of it if it turns out really nicely. Trouble is, they're kind of a pain to make.

You could also give keepsake gifts, like a kit for baby's first foot or hand print. Recently I gave my cousin a frame for baby's first year, where she could take a picture of the baby every month up until the baby is a year old. The 1 year old picture is in the center with each month picture around it.
Reply:I run my own gift basket business and have tons of ideas for you. You can take a look at my ideas or we can create something new. We can do two baskets, one for baby and one for mom, or we can combine them. Send me an e-mail and I will send you to my website. I am a mom and I appreciate the presents that were full of the stuff I would actually use, so I base most of my baby baskets on stuff they need and can use for a while. I hope to hear from you soon.
Reply:A baby blanket

a baby stuffed animal

a bottle, a binky

a whole baby outfit set

a crib thing with alot of baby toys attached on it

a whole crib if no1 else is getting her that!
Reply:You could get her a gift certificate to Entrees, where they make up a meal and you take it home and bake it or freeze it until you need it. Or a gift certificate for a facial, haircut, manicure and pedicure, or a day at the spa. A massage would be nice, too. You could buy her a gift certificate to a video store and some of her favorite candies, and then slip in a coupon for a free night of babysitting.
Reply:A gift certificate for massage or pedi/manicure, or for housecleaning services!!
Reply:The book "What to expect the first year", baby nail clippers, baby brush and comb, Desitin, infant tylenol, baby wipes, mirror that plays music for the car so she can see baby, scratch mittens, swaddle blankets, outlet plugs, Pampers size 1, blanket sleepers, rattle, onesies, bath items, baby memory book and maybe instead of a basket load it all up in a cute diaper bag.
Reply:When my 4th child was born my friends threw me a baby shower. It was a theme night called "Fill the Freezer". Each person brought pre cooked, home made (or otherwise) meals, baking, slices etc.

They were my lifesaver because I could just go to the freezer and literally pull out a meal (large enough for the whole family) and just put it in the oven for that night's meal. No Cooking!!!

Gift ideas..

1. Freezeable meals and baking.

2. A 'babysitting voucher' - where you offer to look after the baby for an afternoon or evening so she can have a day out; sleep etc.

3. A day at a spa.

4. A house cleaner for x months.
Reply:if she's not married yet, offer to be her bridesmaid

Gift Basket for 13 year old Girl?

I decided to make a gift basket for my step-daughter (although I have never made a gift basket before.)

Her "big" Christmas gifts will be wrapped, but I decided to put her small things in a basket.

What are some suggestions for small things to put in the basket. Here's a few things I am already putting in there,

Nail Polish - every color

Nail Polish Remover

Manicure Set

Pedicure Set

Lip Gloss

What else?

Gift Basket for 13 year old Girl?
Nice scented soaps or toiletries, depending on if she's "girly" (go for natural essences etc) or "sporty" (go for patchouli, musk etc).

Scented candles in coloured glass holders

If she has long enough hair, some attractive hair slides (barrettes), a comb and brush set, etc. Hair gel if she wears it, or some little travelling bottles of expensive hair-care products--she'll feel pampered.

Small bottles of her favourite colognes or perfumes, 2-3 different small size ones, to let her have a choice.

A nail-brush; so useful! (For washing your hands) Get a cute one with an animal or flower or something. Mine is a pale-purple hippo and it makes me grin every time I pick it up.

One of those twine shower gloves, or a loofah, or a net bath scrubby or two.

Eyelash curler--extravagant but fun!

Nice talcum powder in a pretty container, esp. if it comes with a powder puff...she may laugh but we all love it!

If you have a bathtub, aromatherapy oils. You can get small bottles and she can add a few drops to the bath...get three or four different ones. Or, get her an oil burner to go with them and some of those little tea lights.
Reply:phone charm, novelty socks, diamante initial key-ring, ear-rings, mini box of chocs (a bit more grown up than a selection box)

my boyfriends daughter is the same age and anything with a playboy logo on it seems to be popular this year.
Reply:at that age all I wanted was $ to go shopping with friends, maybe a gift card to the mall to do a little shopping, and maybe a coupon in there for your services to pick up a friend of hers and take them to lunch and then to the mall?

otherwise how about some books, jewelry making supplies, cool nite light for her room or a small lava lamp, small makeup bag, scarf/hat, handheld games like Tetris Simon or Yahtzee, disposable camera, note book and cool pens, socks, good hair products, her favorite candy
Reply:Nail Decals, makeup, body washes, scrubs, lotions, and body sprays/mists.
Reply:it depends on the girl but

face scrubs, moisturizers, lotions thing like that

candies? chocolates or jolly ranchers

13 year old girls are generally easy to shop for
Reply:Pretty and sweet smelling soaps

Lightly scented body wash, lotion and spray (read labels and stay away from chemicals on all of the above)

Loofah body scrubber

Little mirror

cozy socks in a crazy print

gourmet cocoa mix in individual packets

If she has an Ipod give her a $10 I-Tunes card, if not, give a $10 gift card for music at Target or somewhere

Diary and fancy pen

Necklace and earrings if she's got pierced ears

Gourmet individually wrapped cookie
Reply:Maybe a music CD or DVD of her favorite group. That would fit.

Small perfume bottles

Hair ties

Hair clips

I'm trying to make a gift basket for my husband with all his favorite colognes?

everything i find is in huge bottles and some of the scents don't have small bottles does anyone know a web site that might have them

I'm trying to make a gift basket for my husband with all his favorite colognes?
You can go to Wal-Mart if you have one near you, or Walgreens, both have the smaller colognes for guys!! And they're brand names and less expensive!! I don't know of any online sites that would have the smaller size though...

Have fun :o)
Reply:walmart khols

you can spary some out and yeah
Reply:Try www.thefind.com

Search for "travel size cologne"

Also www.beautysamlinng.com, www.Scentiments.com, and www.100perfumes.com have men's miniatures

A Google or Yahoo! web search for "men's cologne miniatures" will give you lots of other sites to try

What items could I put in a gift basket that remind people of Chicago? (See details below)?

I have friends moving to Chicago. As a going away gift, I'd like to make them a basket filled with things that remind people of Chicago. Something to make them feel a little at home before they go. To start, I was thinking of buying Ferris Bueller's Day Off DVD and something of the Cubs. What other items could I put in this big gift basket???

What items could I put in a gift basket that remind people of Chicago? (See details below)?
How about some hotdogs, a SOX HAT PLEASE, a bears cap, buy hot dogs, hot dog buns and mustard. NO KETCHUP! Dont forget the relish..... Thick pizza, hangover pills because depending on where they are living they might have to use them often, sunglasses for the hot weather, scarves for the cold brrr..... Macy's gift card.... yes I did say Macy's...dont shoot me please.
Reply:A gift certificate for Chicago Style Pizza.

Or a recipe for it.
Reply:if they are moving TO chicago...wouldnt u want them to be reminded of where they left?
Reply:Great idea. Some thermal underwear in preparation for winter.
Reply:good idea about this basket . i really like it

maybe you could put a tiny statue of the sears tower in it . maybe a pizzeria uno (chicago bar and grill) gift certificate
Reply:Some thermal underwear would actually be a good idea. They'll probably find it very handy when the cold unexpectedly hits them with a vengeance....

You might want to include a map of Chicago, a CTA system map, Fannie Mae chocolates, 312 beer (or any Goose Island-produced beer), Vienna beef hot dogs or Polish sausages.... We have beef stands in every neighborhood.

A Chicago-style hot dog does not merely feature mustard and relish. The hot dog must be HEAPING with stuff. First of all, the relish should, ideally, be neon green. And yes, mustard and never ketchup. A good dash of garlic salt. Sliced tomatoes, diced onions. The bun must have poppyseeds -- never plain. Now, THAT is a hot dog and something you can call a proper meal!
Reply:I'd also give them something from a local eatery, mabey a Goose Island beer hat. Mabey a portillos hot dogs bumper sticker?

Not the "touristy" stuff either..like a stupid snow globe. You should give em some BBQ sauce too.

Any ideas what to put in a Margarita themed gift basket besides margarita mix and glasses?

I got one of these before and included were a set of green margarita classes that had cactus shaped handles on them. Also some salt for the rims. The glasses can be found at the Beverages and more website (http://www.bevmo.com), or the direct link to them on that site is http://www.bevmo.com/productinfo.asp?sku... You can also get colored salts at the same site for only $1.99.

You might also want to include a pitcher for serving the margaritas.

Goodies from Goodman sells a cool Margarita Gift Box at http://www.goodiesfromgoodman.com/GiftIt... which includes jelly beans, taffy, and other candy, tortilla chips and salsa.

Some fun cocktail napkins might add some excitement. You can find some real interesting ones at Cooks Corner - http://www.cookscorner.com/cookscorner/d...

Another idea might be to throw some re-usable ice cubes in there. You can find those at homebargear.com - http://www.homebargear.com/site/747816/p...

A resuable camera might be fun to take pictures of all the people having a great time enjoying their margaritas!

Enjoy!

Any ideas what to put in a Margarita themed gift basket besides margarita mix and glasses?
a bartender book, glass charms, cd's
Reply:How bout some sea salt or that big salt they put around the rims and some lemon or lime. If you want to get really goofy get the little umbrellas. Find some little mexican knick knacks or something with a drink theme
Reply:limes 2 kinds of teq. repisado and anjaho
Reply:SALT
Reply:check out this site

http://www.elpasochile.com/
Reply:I would add a "coupon" where you would offer to cook a nice dinner to go with the margaritas...
Reply:garders for the glasses
Reply:A nice flamenco or samba CD.
Reply:If you're a guy and it's for a girl that's special to you, put in something sexy. May I suggest a thong?

If it's for a good friend of yours, put in his or hers favorite magazines. For them, nothing would be more relaxing than drinking those margaritas while laying or sitting somewhere reading those magazines.

I don't drink, so if the basket's for me, skip the margaritas and fill it up with Diet Cherry Cokes. They are practically non existent where I live.
Reply:Oranges and limes, tequila and triple sec, salt, some salsa and chips, sunglasses and shotglasses
Reply:A sombrero, a good quality tequila like Don Julio or Jose Cuervo, rock salt, lemons and limes, a margarita recipe, and how about some chips and salsa to go with the margaritas.
Reply:Cute idea! I would add salt (you can buy the kind in a circular bowl to easily rim the glasses) and some Mexican foods, like a taco dip mix, chips, jarred salsa and guacamole. Maybe even a maraca or cute Mexican hat (sombrero).
Reply:shaker, salt , mini umbrellas, tequila....
Reply:Tequila, salt, limes, chips, and salsa. Maybe even a gift certificate to a local Mexican restaurant.
Reply:how about tequila?? - a couple of limes will be nice too and make your basket look a little nicer. There are some colored salts that could go in too if you want to go that far.

Tequila - Preferably a good one - Jose Quervo will suffice.
Reply:How about an umbrella and a flamingo or a gift certificate sumwhere like a rly nice bar
Reply:chilly salt and sugar to rim the glasses. Make sure the margarita mix is the "master of mixes" its the best. Also a couple of pillow packs of alka seltzer, frozen croissants and creme cheese for the hangover in the morning. Shaker, tequila, triple sec and mint sticks.
Reply:little plastic fruit, fish, umbrellas, colored napkins, beads, anything festive and colorful.
Reply:salt. Add a few drops of coloring to salt, mix well, let it dry. You can do different colors with several batches and then put them into individual salt shakers/small jars.
Reply:I dont know anything about margaritas cuz I'm not old enough to have one lol but arent they connected with mexican culture? You could put a little mexico flag or a sombrero....you could put salt (margaritas have salt right) omg I feel like such a dork now that I realized I dont truly remember what a margarita is. Anyway, you could put in a recipe book, too because can't you make different kinds? OOh put aspirin in it, like for the hangover the next day haha
Reply:Limes, tequilla, salt, a sombraro
Reply:salt, gift cards to a good mexican resturant, and tequilla would be nice yumm
Reply:Roses lime juice.....a glass rimmer....coarse salt....a mixed cd with appropriate songs (think Jimmy Buffet)...some salsa and chips....a mexican cook book....
Reply:Those wide brimmed glasses with the cactus on the stems, and Mexican style "wine" charms so folks can tell their glasses apart.
Reply:Other additions maybe:

-tequila

-margarita salt

-fresh celantro

-fresh limes or lemons

-a CD with Mexican/Spanish music

-nacho chips (not the cheap one, get the good ones)

-gourd maracas

all this is a great fiesta coloured bowl. check out this site under "Ole Fiesta."
Reply:Salt and atificial ice cubes. ASPRIN in case of a head ache
Reply:rum
Reply:Salt, limes, lemons, shot glass, shaker, juicer
Reply:Want something fun and special? Buy a burro pinata and a straw sombrero placed upside down on top. Line the inside with a colorful table scarf and add the drink mix, the glasses, colorful bowls, dip mixes for various Mexican dips, gourmet taco chips (lime chili?), a jar of jalapeno olives, various jars of salsa, a CD of salsa music, and maybe a string of colorful lights to hang on deck of back porch. Instant party.

My mom is trying to get together a gift basket of Southern Food...?

for some northern friends, and we were looking for suggestions. We have some recipes going in like buttermilk pie and cornbread, and little different foods, like Tiger Sauce and pickled okra.

Anything else you guys can think of? Things they can't get.

My mom is trying to get together a gift basket of Southern Food...?
Georgia Peach tea, peach or fruits jams, BBQ sauce, Vidalia onion potato chips or dressing/marinade, honey glazed pecans, pecan pie/tarts, Paula Deen cookbook, cafe du monde coffee, beignet mix, Paul Prudhomme's Cajun spice mix, Cajun %26amp; Creole spices, marinades and mixes, hush puppies mix, grits, pralines, small bottle of Southern Comfort....
Reply:Canned greens (southern style), good country ham slices, Cheerwine, Pralines, Local peanuts, and my favorite MOON-PIES! All in a paper sack from the Piggly Wiggly supermarket.
Reply:Look up gift baskets on web. Also LLBean has some. gl
Reply:I'd put in a bag of Martha White cornmeal, or, the Cotton Pickin' Cornbread mix. My best friend lives in MD, and she can't even find that there, so I know in VT, it'd be like the proverbial needle in a haystack. Maybe put in recipes for fried green tomatoes, and, a sack of pintos and some streak 'o lean or fatback, too.

Maybe a six pack of RC Cola, and another of Cheerwine or Sun Drop, and some Moore's potato chips, and, of course, Moon Pies. Then, for condiments, a bottle of Texas Pete hot sauce, and some Duke's mayonnaise.

Hmm...let's think a bit. I'm fortunate enough to have not left the South but for short trips, and I'm always tickled to get back home.

I'd definitely throw a box of Goody's headache powders in, 'cause you just can't find them anywhere else, other than the South, and nothing else works near as well.
Reply:I am appalled and offended by some of the "southern" food that is suggested here. Our finest culinary achievements do not include Sun-drop cola, mayonnaise, and potato chips. This is more white trash than southern. Sorry.

I think your idea for including cornbread is great, since most northern people have not experienced the joys of a real southern cornbread, and have only had Jiffy mix. (blech.) How about making some homemade preserves to go with your biscuits? My Big Mama (great-grandmother) would make peach preserves.

What about pecan pie? Or pecan pralines? (For those of you who are confused, they aren't pray-leens, they're prah-leens.) Divinity?

I'd toss in a bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce, for sure, and maybe a bottle of homemade pepper vinegar (so easy to throw together) for accompanying greens.

I'll post my method for making cut biscuits if you like. I've been making biscuits since I was a child and I think I'm finally getting it right!

Some might suggest sweet tea, but I'm as southern as it gets, and we never had sweet tea. It wasn't until I was older and experienced the commercialization of southern culture that I had sweet tea. My Big Mama drank water, or she drank a glass of buttermilk with dinner for a treat.

How about fritters? Say, an apple fritter for example? Or a fried pie? I'd try to include blackberries somewhere in there. It's a bad time of year to get blackberries; they'll be expensive, but if it were summertime they'd be everywhere.

I'd like to point out, on a side note, that Paula Deen's isn't southern cooking, per se. I mean, it is, but it's specifically "lowcountry" as she is from Savannah, and that is quite a bit different than the rest of southern cooking. Also, I'm not sure whether Cajun should be included in southern, as it almost certainly deserves its own category. I suppose it depends on where you're from.
Reply:not trying to advertise for a company, but when i really miss some southern food i find the nearest cracker barrel to eat. they have a nice country store also with some old fashion food stuff in there that you can buy off the shelf. their web site has an order by mail, but it has a small selection compared to the store.

http://www.ecrackerbarrel.com/CBFixins.n...

Here's her recipe collection online. she has some homemade jam recipe in there. could also try her dutch oven peach cobbler recipe. where you can pack can fruits, the dry ingredents into a jar and directions on how to combine and cook it. she also has some cook books out at book stores.

my favorite recipe from the food network is fried green tomatoes by emeril.
Reply:I don't know what is available where they live and I don't know where you live either, but certainly you might send them some grits of different kinds (like fine or coarse) and recipes for making them, any cheese that is Southern, a fruit jam or conserve, any crackers, maybe some New Orleans coffee blend and a recipe for beignets to go with them, and a recipe for Hopping John with a bag of dried black-eyed peas, and any spices and herbs used in the South

Reply:Southwestern-Style Beef and Potato Bake

Southwestern seasonings make this a flavorful casserole the whole family will enjoy.

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound extra-lean ground beef

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup coarsely chopped onion

1 cup thinly sliced celery

1 tablespoon minced jalapeno peppers, or diced mild chile peppers

2 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained

1 can (about 12 to 15 ounces) corn with peppers, drained

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Dash pepper

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

4 medium potatoes, peeled, thinly sliced, about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds

2 cups (8 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese

PREPARATION:

Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking dish (2 1/2 to 3 quart size). Heat oven to 350°.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking up, and the onions and celery.

Cook, stirring, until beef is browned and vegetables are tender. Add garlic and peppers; cook, stirring, for about 1 minute longer. Stir in the tomatoes, chili powder, salt, pepper, and cumin.

In the prepared baking dish, arrange half of the sliced potatoes, then top with half of the corn and ground beef mixture and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with the remaining cheese. Cover tightly with foil and bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.

Serves 6.

Herbed Roast Pork Loin and Potatoes

This roast pork loin and potatoes is a snap to prepare. Serve with a vegetable side dish and your favorite salad for an extra-special meal.

INGREDIENTS:

1 boneless pork loin roast, about 3 to 4 pounds

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme

4 to 6 medium potatoes

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon thyme

1 to 2 teaspoon freeze-dried or fresh chives

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

salt and pepper, to taste

PREPARATION:

Rub pork loin with 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons thyme, then sprinkle with salt and pepper; place pork loin in a shallow roasting pan. Roast at 325° for 50 to 55 minutes.

Meanwhile, peel and quarter potatoes; cook in boiling water for about 10 minutes. Drain, let cool, and place potatoes in a large bowl; toss with olive oil, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, chives, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Place potatoes around pork loin; roast an additional 45 to 60 minutes, or until pork registers at least 155° on a thermometer.

Cover roast pork loin with foil and let stand for about 15 minutes before slicing.

Serves 8 to 10.

Any good ideas for an easter basket/gift for my 9 month old?

I want to get her something practical but special and fun since it is her first Easter.

Any good ideas for an easter basket/gift for my 9 month old?
I am getting my 8 month old daughter an Easter basket and putting some toys in it. Stuffed rabbit, Elmo stuff(she loves Elmo), new sippy cup, teethers, etc. I figure it will be good for pics and she'll like the stuff but she wont remember this Easter anyways! :)
Reply:I plan on filling my 7.5 (will be 8 months by Easter) month old's basket with mostly jar baby foods. It's a cute idea and practical since it's food they can eat. Also, I'll probably get him a few small toys as well, such as teethers.
Reply:Definitely a stuffed bunny:)
Reply:I was thinking the same thing when I was in the supermarket yesterday. My son is 8 weeks old so he probably wont know whats going on but I still want to get him something. Maybe some kiddy bunny ears so I can take some photos and a stuffed bunny.

Ideas for Gift Basket for Daycare staff of Eight?

I am making a gift basket for my son's daycare staff. Any ideas as to what to put in there? Something unique would be good... thanks for any help in advance!

Ideas for Gift Basket for Daycare staff of Eight?
yeah i'd think a basket from edible arrangements would be good.

i really wouldn't make a gift basket out of anything but food for them, because otherwise it'd be hard to split up who gets what.

i used to work at a school and during the Christmas holiday, we would receive Christmas cards from the parents with tip money inside of them. any nice gesture will surely make them feel appreciated =]
Reply:I used to work at a daycare. Any time anyone brought in food (cookies %26amp; candy especially) we always loved it. Just put a variety of food in and maybe an ornament for each person.
Reply:Cheese, pate, crackers, port, chocolates, 8 scratch cards/ lucky dips. Try getting minature bottles of alcohol, so they can all take something home, not just one person who'll take it all home. Don't put scented candles in either. Or what you could do is buy 8 big mugs and fill them up with stuff like the minatures, chocs, scratch cards/ luckydips, fancy pens from accessorize, individual sachets of stuff like face masks, mini make up kits/manicure sets? Hope that helps. Happy Christmas

Does anyone know where you can buy Hamilton House sugar cookies without having to be in a gift basket?

Those sugar cookies were designed for gift baskets. My advice is too visit a place that sells them in a gift basket, and either buy a basket w/ the cookies, check the back of the box or bag, and call or write to them asking where yu an purchase them locally.

I am leaving on the shopping trip on Saturday(11/01/08) and want to visit other places besides the traditional- Walmart etc. The baskets can be prepared ones or empty so that I can put in the gift items. I have tried different keywords and have been unsuccessful finding what I want.. Please help as I am running out of time.

Is it totally bad etiquette to buy a gift for someone and buy the same thing for yourself too?

Let's say you buy a friend a shirt that you really like too. Is it wrong to buy the same style of shirt for yourself even if it's in a different color? Or if you buy them a brand of make-up that works well for you and you buy two gift baskets... one for the friend and one for yourself. Is it considered rude, fine, or indifferent?

Is it totally bad etiquette to buy a gift for someone and buy the same thing for yourself too?
not at all. just because you like the same gift doesn't mean anything. it just means you both have simular tastes. women always buy things for there friends and get one to as they like it. especially if its a good deal. guys do it all the time. you buy your buddy a drill at home depot on sale and get one also. he thanks you and you say it was a great deal so i got one also. they appreciate the thought, not whether you got one also.
Reply:It might be considered unoriginal, but not offensive.

Unless you stipulate that you both have to wear the same shirt together always. Now that's plain rude.
Reply:I don't think that it is wrong.
Reply:Of course not!! thats why products are made massively.
Reply:You are sacrificing some part of yourself (your time and money) thinking of someone to give a gift to. That's all that really matters, or at least should matter.
Reply:I don't think so I do it all the time I think it's perfectly fine
Reply:No it is not considered bad. They should actually consider it as a compliment. If you like the item enough to buy for yourself, then you must really like it and it's to be taken as a compliment.
Reply:No, go for it. It shows that you really liked what you bought someone else.
Reply:It depends realli. Cos I gave my friend a purse for her birthdae and bought one for me too in a different colour. She was using hers for two weeks until that day I told her I bought the same one even thought I wasn't using it. She stopped using the purse ever since. Not sure i offend her or something but u just gotta be careful
Reply:I think it's really nice that you would buy your friend a gift that you like so much, you'd like to have one too. I would think it was really thoughtful if my friend did that.
Reply:I don't think so!
Reply:naw.. its coo
Reply:i dont think so either
Reply:I think it is flattering and affirms that you think as much of them as you do yourself!
Reply:far from being rude. It would be rude if you asked to use part of the gift or borrow the gift so if it is something you want as well yeah go ahead and get yourself one too
Reply:i would think it's fine.

it shows it's something you would want for yourself also, meaning it isn't crappy, cheap, etc.
Reply:music companies prefer that you do it that way

they feel your stealing if you dont
Reply:no not really
Reply:no..i think it will show that the gift isnt cheap..and u really liked it...so be cool
Reply:It is not bad form at all to buy something for yourself what you have bought for a friend. I buy a book for a friend. If it is useful for me, I buy a copy for myself too. The same with T-shirts, food, roller pens. When your friend sees you using the same pen you have given her, it shows your endorsement for the thing and that your gift was well-meant for intended good use.
Reply:There's no rule of ettiquette that says this is wrong.
Reply:It's ok! I'm doing the same thing.
Reply:I would have no problem with it. In fact, it would tell me that you thought it was a great gift since it was worthy of you. Just keep being generous with others, and the love for yourself is earned. Peace.
Reply:Its fine, nothing wrong in that

I am making a gift basket with the shrinking bags....HELP!!!?

This is my first time making a gift basket so I need some help. I am making a teacher basket with a lot of sweets, candy etc. When I tie the bag,do I keep air in the bag or do I try to get all the air out before i tie it shut? Thanks so much.

I am making a gift basket with the shrinking bags....HELP!!!?
I don't think it really matters very much but I guess you don't want to have so much air in there it's like a ballon. When you use the blow dryer to heat the bag it shrinks the way it should. Don't overheat it though. And don't put the dryer too close either. Do yourself a favor and hide the ends/opening of the bag at the bottom if you can. You don't want all that extra plastic on top. And if you are using something like a hat box instead of a basket, wrap it first and then cover the bottom with the lid or prop the lid inside to hold everything up. The whole thing will look prettier. It will also look better if you support the items with that confetti stuffing or something else so that the items are not sitting in the bottom of the basket where you can't see them. Fill up the basket as much as you can before you shrink wrap it. The point of the wrap is to hold everything in tight. Don't have so few items in the basket that they are floating around inside. Make sure you wrap the whole thing with a pretty bow.Have fun. :)

Is it appropraite and/or necessary to bring a gift to a closing on sale of a house?

We are, admittedly, emotionally attached to this house, it will be very hard to let it go. Yet the buyers are lovely people and seem to love the house as much as we do. We won't be able to attend the closing, our agent is taking care of it for us. We would like to send a small gift basket, kind of a housewarming gift, maybe to the closing, or to the house after they have moved in. It is our nature to be giving people, but we don't want to make anybody uncomfortable for not reciprocating, or feel obligated in anyway. Is it inappropriate to send a gift? How about a greeting card?

Is it appropraite and/or necessary to bring a gift to a closing on sale of a house?
No. This is business.
Reply:It's wonderful that you want to do something nice. But don't let making a nice gesture overshadow the more practical things -- being out on time, closing on time, leaving the house clean.

When I bought my house, the sellers left a bottle of champagne in the fridge for us, ostensibly to celebrate. I don't drink, and it would have been more to the point if they had washed the pee off the toilet seat. Classier too.

I would send a card "Welcome to your new home" maybe with a small gift card to a local nursery. Our realtor did that for us, and it was fun being able to do something to our new home. Also appreciated are old pictures of the home, especially if the people are interested in restoring it.
Reply:I think that a little gift sounds lovely. I know that eating is always an issue when I move, as nothing is set up yet. So something involving food is always nice.

I don't think it will make them too uncomfortable, I think it would be really nice.

Reply:My advice is to stop right there! What you are doing is really nice and thoughtful, but I've seen a lot of girls really out do themselves on Valentine's Day only to be disappointed or completely forgotten by the person they are dating. You have already gone above and beyond! It's perfect and if he doesn't appreciate it, he doesn't deserve it. The last thing you need to do is enjoy Valentine's Day with your boyfriend!
